Patrick Edward Theodore Brennen.
A friend and name I will never forget.
When I think about Pat...
I am reminded of how damn good he was on a skateboard as well as a unique best friend. I admired many tricks
he would do on that compressed layer peice of wood, wishing I had an ounce of the skill and
ballz-out style he had. I can't get his 360 flips, 360 ollies, and
front-foot impossibles off my mind, nor his stiff style to this day. As I reminisce about him more, I think
about when I first heard of Pat.
It started back in the skate days 1985-87....
An old friend of mine, Jeff Walker, who lived across the street, was the
one who lured me into skateboarding sometime in the summer of 1985. I remember his Jeff Grosso
board clearly. The graphics were a cartoony-like white voodoo doll stacking
up children's number blocks while making an evil grin; his brand
new stage IV Independent trucks; and black Powell Ratbone wheels.
All purchased at Don's Toys at the Santa Anita mall in Arcadia CA. I ended
up with Jeff's board after a while, I am happy to say, although it was a
bit used and abused, I still enjoyed it. As time went by, I gained skills
in skateboarding with the help of Jeff, other friends, and skate 'zines.
We all loved skating around our neighborhood in Pasadena Ca., meeting fellow
skaters and getting other friends into skateboarding. I don't exactly remember
where I met Pat, but what I do remember is hearing of his name through other
friends. In junior high, a lot of us skaters hung out with each other at
lunch time (you know, the whole stereotypical sh!t that goes on). Conversing about skate spots, what tricks we learned and where
we were going to skate after school.
